Dr. Hawley Almstedt, Ph.D., R.D.N.Hawley Almstedt is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health and Human Sciences in Seaver College where she teaches nutrition and exercise physiology. She earned a Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology from Oregon State University where she worked in the Bone Research Laboratory studying exercise programs across the life span to promote bone health and prevent osteoporosis-related fractures. Danielle Good, Senior Administrative CoordinatorDanielle joined the Department of Health and Human Sciences in July of 2012. Her duties include providing administrative support to all faculty, staff, and students in HHSC. A native of California, Danielle received a B.A. degree in Communicative Disorders from CSULB. Before coming to LMU, Danielle spent 15 years working in Early and Behavioral Intervention in school and clinic based settings. Silvie Grote, Ph.D.(c), M.A., M.S., R.C.E.P.Silvie is our Visiting Assistant Professor. She earned her undergraduate degree from Chapman University (Exercise Science and Movement), she has two Masters degrees, one from Cal State University Fullerton (Exercise Physiology), and most recently from Cal State University Long Beach (Adapted Physical Education). Dr. William McCormack, Ph.D., H.F.S.Assistant Professor William McCormack comes to Loyola Marymount University following 25-years as an Aerospace Physiologist in the United States Navy. He earned his B.S. in Business Administration from the United States Naval Academy and his M.A. in Exercise Physiology from the University of Georgia. He received his Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology from the University of Central Florida where he conducted several research projects examining dietary supplements in older adults and endurance-trained individuals. Stephanie Perez, M.S., A.T.C.Stephanie is our Clinical Assistant Professor. She earned her undergraduate degree from LMU (Athletic Training) and her Master’s degree from California Baptist University (Sport Management). Stephanie brings to the Department a variety of Athletic Training experience, in both sports and clinical settings. She has taken on a number of roles in the Department, mentoring and advising students, conducting research, and teaching a variety of our courses from Rehabilitation to Strength and Conditioning. Derek Pugh, M.S.Derek Pugh has been the Laboratory Support Associate the past three years. He came to LMU from Texas where he completed a Masters in Integrative Biology from The University Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. Additionally, Derek has a Masters in Health, Exercise, and Sports Sciences (Exercise Physiology Concentration) from Texas Tech University. Derek is our resident expert in CPR and First Aid, teaching courses for the Department and throughout the University. Dr. Todd Shoepe, Ed.D., M.S., C.S.C.S., H.F.S.Assistant Professor Todd C. Shoepe received his B.S. degree in Fitness Program Management and his M.S. degree in Exercise Physiology from Oregon State University. He earned the Ed.D. degree in Learning Technologies from Pepperdine University. He has been at Loyola Marymount University, since 2005 where he is currently an Assistant Professor. He is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine as well as the National Strength and Conditioning Association where he has held certifications since 2000 and 2005 respectively and has recently recertified through 2017. Dr. Heather Tarleton, Ph.D., M.S., M.P.A.P.Assistant Professor Heather Tarleton is formally trained as a molecular biologist (Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Princeton University) and cancer epidemiologist (M.S. in Epidemiology, University of California, Los Angeles and Master of Public Affairs and Politics, Rutgers University). Dr. Tarleton’s research focuses on comorbidity among cancer survivors.
