
Hawley Almstedt is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health and Human Sciences in Seaver College where she teaches nutrition and exercise physiology. She earned a Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology from Oregon State University where she worked in the Bone Research Laboratory studying exercise programs across the life span to promote bone health and prevent osteoporosis-related fractures. Dr. Almstedt’s research focuses on studying exercise and dietary patterns that optimize bone health. She has served as Department Chair since May of 2012.
Her M.A. in Kinesiology and B.S. degree in Nutritional Sciences are both from San Jose State University. During a sabbatical in 2011, Dr. Almstedt spent six months working in clinical nutrition gaining the experience necessary to become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. Outside of academia, she is a dietary consultant in the areas of sports nutrition and weight loss. She is an active member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics as well as the American College of Sports Medicine.
