The gifts include a lifetime endowment to Seaver College to support faculty and students in biology or environmental sciences, and a gift to one professor’s lab to help fund the study of birds in the local ecosystem.
The grant will fund a project intended to train more than 60 librarians in the fundamentals of academic research, from designing and conducting research projects to disseminating the results.
Roberto Dell’Oro, new director of the Bioethics Institute at LMU, will deliver the annual Bioethics Lecture on Tuesday, Sept. 24. Dell’Oro will discuss how bioethics functions within the complex framework formed by culture, politics, religion and other variables.
LMU officials broke ground on the university’s $110 million Life Sciences Building, which will be open in the 2015-16 academic year. The new facility will feature state-of-the-art technology for students.
The grants are intended to stimulate research and programs that enhance diversity. They’ll go to programs in the School of Education, the Academic Resource Center, the Office of Black Student Services, and the William H. Hannon Library.
