Art history graduate Autumn Durald Arkapaw ’02 made history at the 98th Academy Awards by becoming the first woman ever to win the Oscar for Best Cinematography.

George C. Fatheree III J.D. ’07, P ’28, LMU board member and graduate of Loyola Law School’s JD evening program, enlisted art history alumnus Ryan Maroun ’25 to conduct research for the repatriation of an enslaved artist’s artwork. This fall, their effort saw its first victory when The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA) announced a historic agreement: After more than a century, the museum has restored rightful ownership of two vessels to the descendants of David Drake, also known as Dave the Potter.

The 2025 Jubilee theme, “Pilgrims of Hope,” emphasizes both spiritual and physical movement, and calls Christians to take on a sense of responsibility for those who cross borders—migrants, exiles, displaced persons, and refugees—claiming their right to security and a dignified existence. Last summer, students enrolled in “Christian Faith and Visual Culture in Rome” took steps toward answering this call during their pilgrimage to the Eternal City.
