Melody Rod-ari, Ph.D., associate professor and chair of LMU Art History, has been appointed as the 2023 Sydney Asian Art Series Scholar in Residence at the University of Sydney in Sydney, Australia. This prestigious residency is a valuable addition to the long-standing partnership between the Power Institute and VisAsia at the Art Gallery of NSW, which aims to promote critical research on early, modern, and contemporary Asian art.
Rod-ari has extensive expertise in Buddhist visual culture in Thailand and her research on the history of collecting South and Southeast Asian art in the United States. During her residency, she will share her knowledge with students at the University, collaborate with the curatorial staff at the Art Gallery of NSW, and conduct research in the archives and collections of both institutions. This collaboration between Melody and the institutions involved promises to open a new chapter in fostering and spreading ideas in Asian art and visual culture.
