Shifting the focus from individual concerns to the social, political, and environmental factors shaping the lives of the most vulnerable, Dr. Fonti challenged us to rethink the role of solidarity in bioethics.

Professor of @lmuwgst Amanda Apgar worked alongside students Isabelle Aquino ’24 and Camryn Joseph ’25 to launch an open-access database featuring hundreds of memoirs by parents of disabled children that can be sorted by topics such as age, diagnosis, child age range, and more. Not only is this an incredible resource for caregivers and researchers alike, but both students also note how impactful it’s been working with Prof. Apgar, highlighting her bold thinking and influence on their academic and career goals. 🌿✨ BCLA students recently had an incredible opportunity to spend the night at Saint Andrew’s Abbey in Valyermo, CA, immersing themselves in the daily life of Benedictine monks. This experience followed a semester of studying 12th-century monasticism with Professor Anna Harrison. Students found numerous opportunities to reflect in nature, enjoy the serene silence of the abbey, and connect their academic studies with the lived traditions of monastic life.

Meet Alana Morgan Perkins `25, an inspiring @lmujournalism major originally from Bethesda, Maryland, who now calls Beverly Hills home. Alana’s passion for journalism began in high school, where she worked as head anchor for Beverly Hills High’s broadcast studio. "That experience specifically led me to choose journalism as my major because I began to love the field, particularly sports journalism," she shares. 🎥✨

Eager to continue elevating her skills and career, Alana shines as an ESPN+ sideline reporter for LMU Athletics, blending her academic insights with hands-on experience, and as a valued intern for Fox Sports, where her summer position was extended into the fall. Alana’s journalism courses have prepared her with essential editing skills and industry knowledge that she uses daily, both on the sideline and in the newsroom. 🎙️🏀

Alana is especially grateful to Professor Laila Muhammad, who has been an incredible mentor in her journalism journey, and Professor Ky Henderson, whose history-focused class deepened her appreciation for journalism’s impact. A recent highlight was sharing her BCLA experience on the Dean’s panel during Family Weekend with Professor Henderson. 📚

Beyond the bluff, Alana holds the title of Miss Beverly Hills USA and is a former Miss Teen Universe USA and Miss Teen California US. She’ll be competing in Miss California USA this summer, a testament to her drive, charisma, and dedication to making her mark in media. Keep shining, Alana! 🌟💫
