LOS ANGELES – Loyola Law School, Los Angeles will honor Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Chair Sheila Kuehl with its Johnnie L. Cochran Jr. Public Service Award on Thursday, March 1, 2018 from 6-8:30 p.m. at a ceremony and reception on Loyola’s downtown L.A. campus.
The Cochran Award is presented annually to an individual who embodies the qualities of Loyola alumnus Johnnie L. Cochran Jr. ’62, who was known as a trailblazer, innovator, master attorney and mentor. Mrs. Dale Mason Cochran, his widow, will present the award. Proceeds from the event will benefit Loyola’s African American Scholarship Fund.
Kuehl, a former Loyola Law School adjunct professor, represents Los Angeles County’s Third District. In this role, she has helped create the L.A. County Sheriff’s Civilian Oversight Commission and Office of Child Protection. In addition, she has championed criminal justice reform to help juvenile and adult offenders restart their lives. Previously, Kuehl served in the California State Senate and State Assembly, where she was the first woman to be named Speaker Pro Tempore.
