LMU to Host Leading Mayoral Candidates in Live Debate

LOS ANGELES – The leading candidates vying for the job of mayor of Los Angeles will face off on Tuesday, Feb. 22 in a live debate at Loyola Marymount University, where they will share their visions for the nation’s second-largest city.

Pandemic recovery, homelessness and policing are expected to dominate this year’s first debate, which will begin at 5:45 p.m. with a welcome from LMU President Timothy Law Snyder, followed by the live debate from 6 to 7 p.m. 

Confirmed participants include Rep. Karen Bass, Councilmember Joe Buscaino, Councilmember Kevin de León, City Attorney Mike Feuer, and realtor Mel Wilson.

The event is hosted by the Thomas and Dorothy Leavey Center for the Study of Los Angeles and moderated by the center’s director, Fernando Guerra, professor of Political Science and Chicana/o and Latina/o Studies at LMU.

The center, founded in 1996 with a generous gift from the Thomas and Dorothy Leavey Foundation, is the premier public opinion research organization studying the dynamic region of Los Angeles.
