With graduation upon us, we spoke to some of CFA’s talented #LMU18 graduates as they gear up to leave LMU and take on the world. In our We Love Our Grads series, we asked a senior from each of our departments to share some words about their time here, as well as their plans for the future.
Marina Menchero ‘18
Major: Art History
Next step: English Instructor in Madrid, Spain!
How did you decide to become an Art History major?
When I first came to college, I was an undeclared Liberal Arts major. I took a wide variety of classes to see what my interests were, but nothing really clicked until I took an art history class sophomore year. I took AP Art History in high school and really fell in love with the subject then, so I knew I was making the right decision.
What are your post-graduation plans and how did you come to that decision?
I will be spending the next year teaching English abroad in Madrid, Spain! I think studying art history really made me want to travel after graduation and immerse myself in all the amazing things I’ve been fortunate enough to study. Art history is also such a unique subject that there isn’t really a direct path after graduation, which opens up many opportunities and allows for more exploration.
How do you feel your experience at LMU prepared you for this next step?
One amazing thing about LMU, especially the CFA departments, is that the classes are so integrative and close-knit. There is always constructive engagement between teachers and students, which really fosters a greater learning environment. These experiences have prepared me for this next step after graduation.
What will you miss most about LMU?
I will miss this beautiful campus and constantly running into friends. LMU is really a little slice of heaven and I’ll miss just about everything about it.
What advice do you have for underclassmen?
Enjoy every single moment!!! College is the most precious time and it really does fly by before you know it. Appreciate it all!
