Loyola Marymount University’s M-School, a two-year creative marketing program housed within the College of Business Administration, triumphed for the second straight year as the national champion in the 2023 Effie Collegiate Brand Challenge, showcasing Ally as the client.
Demonstrating exceptional strategic thinking, consumer insights, media strategy, measurement, analytics, and creativity skills, three M-School student teams competed in the finals as the top three teams nationwide in the 2023 Effie Collegiate Brand Challenge.
The client brief challenged students to create disruptive campaigns aimed at creating awareness and interest in Ally’s target audience. The LMU teams earned the opportunity to present their outstanding campaigns to Ally’s senior marketing and brand management team in Detroit during the spring 2023 semester. The following three M-School teams’ campaigns placed first, second and third respectively: “Banking in the Right Direction,” “For Whatever’s Next” and “Live in Color.”
“Sweeping the Effie Collegiate Brand Challenge is a testament to our cutting-edge curriculum co-taught by industry pros plucked from the extensive Los Angeles creative marketing community,” said M-School Co-Directors Matt Stefl and Andy Rohm.
This remarkable achievement exemplifies LMU’s commitment to excellence and cements the M-School’s position as a rising dynasty within collegiate marketing and advertising programs.
“Throughout the Effie project, M-School student teams received guidance from dozens of industry partners, including session leaders and mentors, from leading Los Angeles agencies and brands like Amazon, Google, Deutsch, MullenLowe, MediaMonks, Stagwell Group, and many more,” said M-School Instructor Bernice Chao.
“The Ally team was truly impressed by the agency-quality work that came from the three teams from LMU’s M-School,” said Andrea Brimmer, Effie board member and chief marketing and public relations officer at Ally. “Their campaigns showed an understanding of our brand and our purpose that we believe would be very effective in the marketplace. Kudos to all three teams and the staff of the M-School who have prepared them for bright futures in marketing.”
