To celebrate Pi Day on March 14, faculty and staff gathered at LMU and LLS campuses for Pi Day Fun Walks – 31 minutes and 40 seconds long in honor of the 3.14 mathematical constant.
Pi is the 16th Greek letter denoted by the symbol π and represents the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. This numerical anomaly has calculations that go on infinitely with never-repeating sequences and its value never changes regardless of the size of the circle.
The Pi Day walk was organized by Marieclare Sia, the HR Sr. Wellness Strategist and Advisor, as part of LMU’s IGNITE Challenge designed to strengthen our minds, bodies, and souls. Sia saw it as an opportunity for people to reconnect with each other, especially given the changes brought about by the pandemic, such as remote or hybrid work schedules. “What I’ve noticed is that when people come together, they are more energized, and this was an opportunity to re-connect and focus on our well-being. As part of LMU’s Ignatian spirit of caring for the whole person, the walk was the perfect opportunity to re-engage people across all LMU campuses,” Sia said. Eileen De Alva-Gonzalez, LMU MarComm Communications Manager, echoed this sentiment, saying that it was a “fun way to connect with the community and prioritize wellness.”
The walk was led by master fitness instructor Vivian Riddick who incorporated calisthenics at various stops along the way.
