
LOS ANGELES — Experts on Russia’s war against Ukraine, and the resulting humanitarian crisis in Eastern Europe, will come together on Friday, March 18, at a hybrid event hosted by Loyola Marymount University.
“Russia’s Invasion of Ukraine: Understanding Putin’s Catastrophic War of Choice” will feature a virtual conversation with Steven Pifer, a nonresident senior fellow with the Brookings Institution and former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine, and LMU alumnus Wayne Limberg, former director at the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Intelligence and Research.
Other guests will provide voices and perspectives from Russia and Ukraine, participating in person at LMU’s Mayer Theater and on screen. They include Ulia Gosart, a UCLA lecturer who was born in the former Soviet Union and has conducted video interviews with Ukrainians; Ukraine native Cyril Hovorun, an Orthodox priest, professor at Stockholm School of Theology, and senior research affiliate with LMU’s Huffington Ecumenical Institute; and Nigel Raab, LMU professor of Russian history and an expert on Russian media and its impact on society.
