LOS ANGELES — Loyola Marymount University President Timothy Law Snyder, Ph.D., will take the stage on Monday, March 3 at SXSW EDU in Austin, Texas, to urge education leaders to “courageously support our students … no matter the pressures.”
Snyder will present “Courageous Leadership for and with the Solidarity Generation” at 1:30 p.m. CT, at the Austin Convention Center, where educators from across the country will gather for the four-day event that fosters innovation and learning within the industry.
An educator, mathematician, and academic administrator at Jesuit institutions for nearly 40 years, Snyder refers to Gen Z as “the Solidarity Generation” – a group emboldened by its profound care for one another, proclivity for purpose, and its interconnectivity. Snyder explains that leaders must guide, not hide, at a time when paralyzing fears are sweeping through college campuses: fear of conflict, of backlash, of losing our moral compass in the noise of neutrality.
“Let us reclaim the bold purpose of the academy: to educate not just minds, but also change-makers, leaders and even hearts,” Snyder explains.
Snyder’s research interests include the education of millennials and Gen Z (#Solidarities), computational mathematics, data structures, design and analysis of algorithms, geometric probability, digital signal processing, airline flight safety and HIV diagnosis and prevention.
