LOS ANGELES — Loyola Marymount University today welcomes 9,142 students to its Westchester and Playa Vista campuses for the 2024-25 academic year.
The Class of 2028 includes more than 1,600 first-year students from 39 states and 58 nations, along with 450 transfer students from 190 colleges and universities. Joining them are 800 new graduate students enrolled in master’s, certificate, and doctoral programs.
First-year students, born mostly in 2005 and 2006, come to LMU with an impressive average weighted GPA of 4.0. Their most common majors are psychology, marketing, and production (film and television).
California, Washington, and Texas are the top home states among first-year and transfer students. Sophia is the most popular name, followed by Isabella, with Ryan and Ava tied for third.
Eight percent of first-year students and 11 percent of new transfer students are international scholars from countries around the globe, including the top three among LMU Lions: Kuwait, Indonesia, and China.
LMU’s overall student population now represents 48 states and 93 nations.
Across town, LMU Loyola Law School has also launched into the new academic year.
The downtown L.A. campus welcomes 342 new Juris Doctor (J.D.) students, 38 candidates for the Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree, 13 students for the Tax LL.M., and eight scholars in the Master of Science in Legal Studies (M.L.S.) program. This diverse group of new students represents 18 countries, 55 majors of study, and 100 undergraduate institutions.
