Demian Willette, associate professor of biology at LMU, detailed his micro-forest study using the Miyawaki method to grow native plants in Ascot Hills Park. The project has shown significant climate benefits, like sequestering carbon dioxide, and has galvanized communities to volunteer and engage with nature. “It’s actually working,” Willette said. “It’s real and it’s worth the effort. It’s not just hopes and dreams.”
