
In November, county voters endorsed the biggest change in its government in a century — including the establishment of a new person to lead the County of Los Angeles, an elected county executive who will be chosen in the 2028 election. “They will be the most powerful elected official in the United States,” said Fernando Guerra, the head of the Center for the Study of Los Angeles at Loyola Marymount University.
