Justin Levitt, professor at LMU Loyola Law School, commented on the Supreme Court’s recent decision to uphold birthright citizenship in a six-to-three vote. “The majority opinion preserves what we in this country understand as our biggest strength, which is, we’re not based on some sort of race-based nation, we’re not based on bloodline, we’re based on the fact that we have a common allegiance to a government based on soil, based on the fact that we are here.”
