
“I think he will decide when he needs to resign,” said Father Thomas Rausch, professor of Catholic theology at LMU. “He’s made it very clear that he would if he could no longer carry out his office. But he’s still very alert and in good shape I think mentally.”
Rausch added: “It’s very hard to predict what he’s going to do because he’s surprised all sorts of people with the way he’s exercised his office as Bishop of Rome.”
