Following the Eaton and Palisades Fires, disaster recovery experts from Loyola Marymount University, UCLA, and Purdue University have joined forces to collect and test soil and water samples for over 1,000 homes in and around the burn zones. This initiative aims to empower households and businesses to make informed recovery decisions.
Brianne Gilbert, Managing Director at LMU’s Center for the Study of Los Angeles, spoke to NBC-4 about the Community Action Project LA (CAP.LA), funded by the R&S Kayne Foundation. The project involves researchers from LMU, UCLA, and Purdue University, offering free soil and water testing for homeowners in affected areas.
“The response has been overwhelming,” said Gilbert. “We’ve already had more than 500 people sign up. Residents can register for this free testing, ensuring their properties are safe as recovery efforts continue.”
