LMU’s graduate commencement speaker, Ben Sherwood, CEO and publisher of The Daily Beast, encouraged the graduating class to “live the questions” as they navigate an increasingly AI-driven world. Though machines can generate code, narratives, and essays, he says, “there is one thing they cannot do. They cannot live a human life. Machines generate answers. You get to live your way into one.” His message was in contrast to those of commencement speakers in recent weeks who faced criticism from audiences for their embrace of A.I. in an uncertain world.
