Chaya Crowder, Fernando Guerra, and Michael Genovese, professors with LMU Bellarmine College of Liberal Arts, analyzed President Trump’s State of the Union Address on local channels.
“We can’t help but think about the important role of affordability in this moment, and on one hand, we have President Trump saying that the economy is booming, and that it’s better than ever. At the same time, voters know how it feels. What he said stands at contrast with the majority of Americans who have said that the economy is not doing well right now,” said Crowder on Fox-11.
“He did not change anybody’s mind or give a reason to change anybody’s mind. The core support loved the speech. It’s the independents who I don’t think the speech will move,” said Guerra on NBC-4.
“The American voter has said consistently they want the president to focus like a laser beam on affordability, on prices, on the economy. And President Trump, when he talks of affordability, is pretty flippant about it. Americans want to know that you take it seriously, you’re going to do something about it, you’re not just going to blame someone else, but you’ve got something on your agenda,” said Genovese on Spectrum News 1.
