Biology major Frances Dygean is president of the LMU chapter of Beta Beta Beta, a collegiate honor society and academic fraternity for students of the biological sciences. She spent her summer in Maine researching birds, while applying for medical school and studying for her yoga certification. An almost-grad (December 2024!), Frances shared some of her experience here.
About her summer studying birds up close:

I started my summer in Appledore Island, Maine where I participated in a Field Ornithology Course. Excitingly, I got to see the Great Black-backed Gull in person for the first time after researching it for almost 2 years. This course sparked my curiosity in research and helped me further develop my scientific mind.
For the middle part of the summer I worked on medical school applications which was grueling but necessary. Lastly, I took a yoga training course and now have become a certified instructor. My motivation to pursue this certification was to become trained in one of the alternative forms of healing to utilize throughout medical training, and ultimately be able to help others reach their wellness goals.
On being a Seaver student:
Being a Seaver student has meant endless opportunities to explore my curiosities, from leadership to research, to engaging learning opportunities. Upon reflection, I know my foundation through the Seaver college has prepared me for my next steps in medical school and as a leader in my community!
