Each year, Frank R. Seaver College of Science and Engineering asks our students engaged in summer research to tell us about themselves, their work and the goals of the research they are working with professors on. This year, the questionnaire was completed by intrepid scientists, mathematicians, engineers and tech experts on campus at Loyola Marymount University — and beyond the bluff!
Rushabhsinh Sinora, a graduate student on their way to earning their M.S. in Computer Science, worked with professor Mandy Korpusik this summer on In2Eat, an app that assists users with intuitive eating.

Can you describe your research for those outside your field of study?
My research helps students become more aware of their health by teaching them about different foods and their nutritional value. They’ll learn which foods are good for them, which are not, what to eat, when to eat it, and what might have a negative effect on their health.
What do you think readers will find most interesting about your project?
With the help of AI, we’re creating the perfect blend of food recommendations that not only support good health but also meet individual gut health needs. This can help people shift how they think about food and give them more freedom and confidence to plan their diets.

What have you learned about doing research that other students might benefit from?
This research specifically deepens my knowledge of Python, React Native, APIs, and LLMs. It also teaches me how to build models that allow users to interact with AI and track their progress. More generally, I get hands-on experience with machine learning, deep learning, and real-world applications of what I’ve learned in class.
In your experience, how does doing research complement coursework?
It will get me through with the knowledge of python, react native, API’s and LLM. It will also learn me to build models where users can track and interact with AI. Learn more about Machine Learning and Deep Learning and so on.
