Twenty interdisciplinary teams of 80 undergraduate and graduate students competed for cash prizes at the second annual LMU Datathon. Participants used data from projects funded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to create their final presentations and showcase their skills in storytelling with data.
“The datathon underscored the power of collaboration and real-world application, fueling students’ growth in data analytics while fostering a dynamic learning environment,” said Ana Mangal, clinical associate professor of information systems and business analytics.

Track 1:
1st Place – Iris Gallagher, Yonathan Amare, Rafael Salonikios, Dianne Batya (ISBA students)
2nd Place – Sara Eberle, Gavin Butts, Sophia Wagner, Brian Macdonald (BCLA and Seaver students)
Track 2:
1st Place – Andrew Xu, Diego Estuar, Ella Foster, Yannick Angouo Lopez (MSBA students)
2nd Place – Lance Royston, Andrew Morris, Christy Hung, Ornella Darcyl (MSBA students)
The competition was judged by industry leaders from Fortune 500 companies and LMU alumni, including Rick Gehringer, CIO, Wedgewood; Abhishek Rath, strategic program leader, Amazon Web Services; Alan Wayne ’11, principal international growth consultant, Google; Grace Ouyang, M.S. ’23, analyst, AltaMed Health; and Maria Dalasio ’14, channel program manager, Palo Alto Networks.
The datathon is organized by the Department of Information Systems and Business Analytics and the ISBA Society. This event is made possible thanks to the generous support of the Komagome ISBA/MSBA Student Success Fund.
