Mia Tran, a senior studio arts major at Loyola Marymount University, spent her summer working as a marketing intern at BENlabs. BENlabs is a marketing company in Los Angeles that specializes in AI technology in relation to product placement, influencer marketing, and music partnerships.
Tran was first able to learn about the company after attending a virtual career fair hosted by LMU Career and Professional Development. After gaining an interest in working with Benlabs, she followed up by reaching out to a recruiter who encouraged her to apply for a job through their application portal.
During her time at BENlabs, Tran was able to work on several different projects, such as working on competitive analysis assignments and creating content for the company’s website. By working on these specialized projects, Tran also gained further hands-on experience by building upon her skills in research, project management, and web design. She has transferred the skills from the internship to a new role this academic year as a deep catalog marketing intern at Warner Music Group.
“Throughout the internship, I had the opportunity to work on projects that pushed me beyond my comfort zone,” Tran said. “These experiences taught me to embrace change and view challenges as opportunities for growth, specifically in communication, project management, branding strategies, and marketing technology.”
“Throughout the internship, I had the opportunity to work on projects that pushed me beyond my comfort zone.”
Tran believes her time at LMU set her up for success with the role. “The studies I learned at LMU have definitely prepared me well for this internship,” Tran said. “From organization skills to time management alongside hard skills including using design software such as Figma, Adobe Creative Cloud, and web development.”
The summer was full of incredible experiences, and Tran was able to get comfortable in a professional work setting. “The most meaningful part of this internship was the support I received from my team, my boss, and everyone else at BENlabs,” Tran said. “It made it feel very welcoming and a great environment to learn. Everyone was willing to share their experience and expertise, and most importantly, I got to meet some amazing people across different departments, including other interns.”
Therefore, while Tran was able to build upon her specialized skills in design and content creation, she additionally found that her experience allowed her to develop and grow professionally in a welcoming and supportive work environment.
“The biggest takeaway I have from this experience is acquiring the skills of knowing how to navigate the working environment, how to effectively build connections, and how I can effectively use my skills to make myself stand out and better contribute to the company.”
