Dear LMU Community:
I am heartbroken to share that Emily Beutner, a junior studio arts major in the LMU College of Communication and Fine Arts, passed away on Jan. 6, 2026. She was 22 years old.
Emily transferred to LMU in the fall 2024 semester. She was active in the Photography and Yoga clubs, and served as an ARTsmart mentor to underserved K-8 students in the surrounding community. Her commitment to service and cura personalis was further exemplified in her participation in a De Colores trip to Tijuana, Mexico, in November 2024.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations in Emily’s memory to De Colores or the ARTsmart mentor program.
Student Psychological Services, Community of Care, Campus Ministry, and the Dean of Studentsare available to speak with students who seek support during this difficult time. Student Psychological Services also offers TimelyCare, a teletherapy service with licensed providers to support mental health. Faculty and staff may seek support from the Employee Assistance Programand the Center for Ignatian Spirituality.
We will remember Emily with a plaque bearing her name at our student memorial, Ad Astra per Aspera.
Please join me in extending our deepest condolences to Emily’s family and loved ones, and in holding Emily and all who are grieving her loss in our collective thoughts and prayers.
