As LMU prepares to observe this day of recognition, the university is updating how this moment is reflected across programming and communications.
Cesar Chavez has long been recognized for his contributions to labor rights and social justice, particularly in California and within higher education. The university also takes seriously recent reporting regarding allegations of harm and is approaching this moment with care, discernment, and respect for our community.
In alignment with the State of California and the City of Los Angeles, LMU will observe this day as Farmworkers Day, shifting the focus from any one individual to the broader community of workers whose labor sustains and strengthens our society.
This approach reflects LMU’s values and mission by honoring the dignity of work, fostering reflection, and caring for the whole community. It also affirms the enduring importance of the farm worker movement and the collective contributions of those who have advanced justice and equity through their labor.
As planned, the university will be closed on March 31. The observance will be reflected as Farmworkers Day in Workday and in Human Resources communications.
The university’s two previously scheduled events—Education of Heart: Generative Dialogue and the Interfaith Prayer Celebration of Service and Work—have been thoughtfully updated to reflect this moment. Both programs remain grounded in reflection, appreciation, respect, and care for one another. These events are open to all members of the LMU community and provide an opportunity to recognize those whose labor sustains our campus.

Mientras LMU se prepara para conmemorar este día de reconocimiento, la universidad está actualizando la forma en que este momento se refleja en sus eventos y comunicaciones.
César Chávez ha sido reconocido desde hace mucho tiempo por sus contribuciones a los derechos laborales y a la justicia social, particularmente en California y en el ámbito de la educación superior. La universidad también toma muy en serio los informes recientes sobre las denuncias de daños y afronta este momento con cuidado, discernimiento y respeto hacia nuestra comunidad.
En alineación con el Estado de California y la Ciudad de Los Ángeles, LMU conmemorará este día como el Día de los Trabajadores Agrícolas, desplazando el enfoque de cualquier individuo en particular hacia la comunidad más amplia de trabajadores cuyo esfuerzo sostiene y fortalece a nuestra sociedad.
Este enfoque refleja los valores y la misión de LMU al honrar la dignidad del trabajo, fomentar la reflexión y el cuidado del bienestar de toda la comunidad. Asimismo, reafirma la importancia perdurable del movimiento de los trabajadores agrícolas y las contribuciones colectivas de quienes han promovido la justicia y la equidad a través de su labor.
Tal como estaba previsto, la universidad permanecerá cerrada el 31 de marzo. Esta conmemoración figurará como “Día de los Trabajadores Agrícolas” tanto en el sistema Workday como en las comunicaciones del Departamento de Recursos Humanos.
Los dos eventos de la universidad programados con anterioridad —”Educación del Corazón: Diálogo Generativo” y la “Celebración Interreligiosa de Oración por el Servicio y el Trabajo”— han sido cuidadosamente actualizados para reflejar el contexto actual. Ambos programas siguen basándose en la reflexión, el aprecio, el respeto y el cuidado mutuo.
