At this time, donations and fundraising are the most effective assistance the LMU community can provide. The LMU Center for Service and Action shares a list of various ways Lions can help with relief efforts. Additionally, relief specific to the LMU community can be found here.
Currently, there are no fires in proximity to the Westchester, Playa Vista, or LMU Loyola Law School campuses, and the campus is not impacted by current evacuation orders or warnings. Although the situation may change, L.A. County officials have determined no current threat to any LMU campus.
LMU continues to monitor the air quality of the region and alert the community with updates.
The South Coast Air Quality Management District offers an interactive map of air quality data and wildfire smoke and ash health safety tips on its website, including the Air Quality Index (AQI), a measure used to report daily air quality and its potential health effects.
While most people are unaffected by moderate AQI levels (51–100), sensitive groups, including those with lung or heart conditions, children, and older adults, face increasing risks as AQI rises, with health effects becoming more pronounced at unhealthy levels (151–200).
Recommended actions for the community for AQIs in the unhealthy range and for sensitive groups include staying indoors and keeping the windows closed, and reducing or avoiding outdoor aerobic activity.
Face masks are available at no cost to all LMU community members. All residence halls are stocked with surgical and N95 face masks. You may also pick them up at Foley Annex, Malone 301, and University Hall 1900. For LMU Loyola Law School, please visit the Public Safety Office, Information Center, and the Student Affairs Office.
Students with extenuating circumstances should contact us at communityofcare@lmu.edu (studentaffairs@lls.edu for LMU Loyola Law School Campus) for personalized assistance and support.
LMU has a full-service medical office accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC). Our health care team includes physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and trained support staff. Information about LMU Student Health Services is available here.

There are currently no evacuation orders or warnings for the LMU campus. Should evacuation orders become necessary, they will be issued based on directives from the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), with whom we maintain continuous communication to receive the latest updates.
The university is fully prepared with comprehensive emergency response plans, regularly updated procedures, and trained personnel to prioritize the safety and well-being of the campus community, including during evacuation scenarios.
The specific plan and speed of any evacuation response will depend on various factors, such as the specifics of the emergency, the number of individuals requiring evacuation, and the time of day, as university operations vary. However, regardless of the circumstances, the university has detailed plans in place, ready to execute when needed. Our commitment is to prioritize a safe and prompt evacuation.
Under the Campus Safety Services division, the Emergency Management unit coordinates all campus-wide emergency management efforts. These include preparedness training, drills, emergency planning and response, capability development, Continuity of Operations, and managing the university’s emergency notification system. The unit also oversees the Emergency Response Team program and ReadyLMU preparedness campaigns, ensuring collaboration with emergency partners across the Los Angeles region and representing the university on multiple emergency management committees.
During an evacuation, LMU Alert serves as the primary communication tool for immediate updates. All university-affiliated email addresses are automatically enrolled in LMU Alert, and individuals can opt-in for text message updates by texting “LMULIONS” to 226-787. To unsubscribe, text “STOP.” Updates will also be shared through LMU This Week: Express and other communication channels to ensure timely information reaches the broader community.
For additional guidance on preparedness and recommended actions, visit safety.lmu.edu and CAL FIRE’s Essential Guide for Wildfire Evacuation Safety.
All campuses have trained staff to manage emergencies, including power outages. Power outage resources can be found here.
We are closely following the advice of the fire department. The fire department has recommended against this, as the water evaporates quickly and does not have a significant effect. The best course of action is to ensure that fire pumps are operational and we have tested and confirmed that they are.
Additionally, we have taken precautions and kept any combustible materials away from areas of concern, even if the property is not in an evacuation zone or warning area.
If you are a student who has been directly impacted by the fires or are affected by extenuating circumstances, please contact us at communityofcare@lmu.edu (studentaffairs@lls.edu for LMU Loyola Law School Campus.
Students should contact their professors directly should they have any academic questions or concerns.
