Finding your career path in engineering requires adaptability.

This is what Jackie Space, director of strategy and partnerships at Voyager Technologies and LMU systems engineering alumna (M.S. ’12), shared with LMU students at Seaver Spotlight in late March.

In her keynote address, Space described how career twists, emerging technologies, and a willingness to pivot propelled her into the commercial aerospace industry.

“When I was working on getting my master’s degree at LMU, I didn’t know how it would translate into the work I’m doing now,” said Space, an Air Force veteran.

After seeing the rise of SpaceX, Space co-founded BMNT, an innovation consultancy company for military and intelligence agencies. The company helped the U.S. government work with commercial technology companies for national defense.

In her current role at Voyager Technologies, Space builds partnerships with universities and companies for the Starlab space station — the commercial space station that will replace the International Space Station.
