The World Policy Institute, in partnership with Loyola Marymount University’s Bellarmine College of Liberal Arts, announces the creation of the World Policy Institute at LMU, a first of its kind interdisciplinary research and academic center.
Michael Genovese, Ph.D., professor of Political Science who holds the Loyola Chair of Leadership Studies and is director of the Institute for Leadership Studies, will serve as president of WPI at LMU.
“This expansion is just the beginning of what we hope will be a long and fruitful partnership between WPI and LMU, one that allows both institutions to expand their influence and create new relationships,” said Joseph A. Cari, Jr., chairman of the World Policy Institute Board of Directors. “Given the university’s prestige, its holistic approach to education, and my longstanding association as chair of LMU’s Board of Leadership Studies, Loyola Marymount is a natural partner as WPI broadens its domestic and global influence.”
As the New York-based center for global thought leadership expands to the university’s Los Angeles campus, WPI at LMU will be distinguished by the combination of WPI’s unique emphasis on a cross-cultural, interdisciplinary approach to policy with the social consciousness and value driven focus of LMU’s academic program. In addition to welcoming members of the LMU team to WPI’s fellows program, editorial board, board of directors and internship program, WPI at LMU will develop distinct initiatives around the trends and issues driving policy across the globe, beginning with programs on the Pacific Rim, national security and governance. World Policy’s daily news site will regularly report on the developments generated from the new bi-coastal ideas incubator to its global audience of nearly 1.5 million readers.
“World Policy Institute’s well-established efforts to promote more globally conscience policy recommendations, to create more inclusive dialogues, and to ensure that underrepresented and traditionally marginalized populations have a place at the table fit very well with LMU’s mission,” said Robbin D.
