I entered Loyola Marymount University as a political science major excited to explore my passion of learning about the world and its complexity. Although I enjoyed studying political science, I knew that I wanted to focus on global affairs, so I was thrilled when LMU introduced the international relations major.
Since I began my college career at LMU, I have found all of my classes very interesting. Some of my favorite international relations (IR) major courses thus far have included “Introduction to International Relations” with Dr. [Jennifer] Ramos, and “International Security” with Dr. [Kerstin] Fisk. The IR faculty has been beyond helpful in facilitating my academic success and has made me confident in my decision to study international relations at LMU.
This coming Fall, I have been given the opportunity to study abroad in London at the London School of Economics and experience an internship in the United Kingdom through the Institute for Leadership Studies at LMU. Upon completion of this program, I hope to become a more well-rounded citizen with a newfound perspective on the international system and the role that the U.K. plays within it. Exposure to the inner workings of another government will hopefully increase my understanding of how to better facilitate interstate communication and collaboration in a future career in foreign policy analysis or diplomatic relations.
I am thankful for the opportunities that LMU and the IR program have presented me, and am excited to see where a degree in international relations takes me in the near future.
