The Department of Women’s and Gender Studies stands with the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities in defense of the lives and the dignity of all people of Asian heritage. We are heartsick at the racist misogynist attack in Atlanta on March 16 and we join in mourning the loss of each of the eight victims. As scholars and teachers of intersectional feminism, we want to draw attention to the interlocking forces of anti-Asian racism, white supremacy, imperialism, racialized misogyny and exploitation that led to this brutal attack targeting Asian American women workers. We must take action against anti-Asian hate which is part of systemic racism in America.
