SFTV is pleased to announce that immersive designer Ana Carolina Estarita-Guerrero will join our faculty this fall as the Cosgrove Family Distinguished Visiting Artist in the Animation Department. She will bring immersive media into the curriculum, with innovative technologies and aesthetics that had not previously been offered at SFTV, coinciding with the department’s new joint minor in Interactive, Gaming, and Immersive Media with the Frank R. Seaver College of Science and Engineering.
“Ana Carolina’s artistic and technical vision will expose students to new ways of thinking about Animation interaction and practical and innovative ways to implement ideas,” said Adriana Jaroszewicz, chair of SFTV’s animation department, which was recently ranked 7th B.A. program in the nation by Animation Career Review. Situated within the Steed Family Media Arts Innovation Wing of our forthcoming Howard B. Fitzpatrick Pavilion, Ana Carolina will also create two exhibits as Visiting Artist, an interactive installation in Fall’ 21 and an augmented reality experience in Spring ’22. These exhibitions will tie both into courses she will be teaching as well as the history of SFTV.
Ana Carolina began her career as one of the most influential experimental animators in her native Colombia. After an International Artist Fellowship at USC, her animation and installation work has been showcased in multiple festivals and exhibitions around the globe. She uses mixed reality, projection mapping, animation, and film to conjure fantastic landscapes that feel alive–responding and changing with the presence of the viewer.
