For Norma Romero, director of LMU School of Education Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math & Science;, earning her doctorate was a long-time dream and “a life-changing experience.”

Norma’s students include 118 Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math & Science participants. A full 100 percent of the Class of 2020 are beginning college this semester, 94 percent of whom will attend four-year universities, including LMU.
Following a “historic” six-week, fully online summer program, UB/UBMS is gearing up for the fall semester’s remote services, as services such as academic advising, tutoring, assistance with the college application process, and enrichment activities, are offered year-round. The federally funded LMU UB and UBMS projects serve Westchester Enriched Sciences Magnet students from low-income families in which neither parent has earned a bachelor’s degree.
