This past summer, LMU School of Education celebrated two Jubilarians. In July, Sister Rosemarie Nassif, SSND, Ph.D. celebrated her Diamond Jubilee for serving 60 years as a School Sister of Notre Dame. During her years of service, Sister Rosemarie earned a doctorate in chemistry, taught at the college level and held positions of executive vice president, president, special advisor to the U.S. Department of Education, and program director for the Hilton Foundation. Sister Rosemarie brings her wealth of experience to the SOE in her role as Executive Director of the Center of Catholic Education.
In August, Sister Mary Angela Shaughnessy, SCN, JD, Ph.D. (Sister Angie) celebrated her Golden Jubilee for serving 50 years as a Sister of Charity of Nazareth. During her years of service, Sister Angie earned two doctorates—one in law and the other in education. She is considered a national authority on education law. At the university level, Sister Angie served as Vice President for Mission, Chair of Education Department, Dean of the Graduate School, and formed a doctoral program in educational leadership. Among her awards, Sister Angie received the President’s Award from the National Catholic Education Association (NCEA). She continues to work with SOE students and continues to offer professional development across the country as she represents LMU as a Senior Distinguished Fellow of Catholic Education.
“Sister Rosemarie and Sister Angie exemplify our core School of Education mission and values,” says Mary McCullough, longtime faculty member and former interim dean of SOE, who’s served as associate dean of faculty and is currently chair of its Department of Educational Leadership. “Their work with our students and partners, dedication to Catholic education, and leadership within their fields is appreciated locally and recognized nationally.”
”We congratulate Sister Rosemarie and Sister Angie for their decades of service to their religious orders and to LMU,” adds SOE Dean Michelle D. Young. “Their knowledge and experience enrich our SOE community, and their empathy and compassion expand our collective hearts. We are truly grateful to have them among us.”
