In September, LM-UMatch held its annual Speed Interviewing event for students of all majors to practice their interviewing skills and get feedback on resumes from professional recruiters from a variety of industries. As part of the College of Business Administration’s Talent Management Center, LM-UMatch is a student-run recruiting service launched in 2013 that matches LMU students with local companies for paid internships and full-time jobs.Fifteen professional recruiters and over 80 students participated in the event which set a new turnout record. Companies represented included Clique Media Group, Digital Knack, Horizon Media Group, Ledgent, BizEx and Creative Artists Agency. Although the event was solely meant for valuable practice, it resulted in the placement of two interns at StyleHaul. The event also provided students with a free LinkedIn headshot by a professional photographer.
”Our goal is to create an environment where students can practice their interviewing and get real time feedback from professional recruiters on both their resumes, interviewing, and any career advice the students might have,” said Mitch Rufca, who teaches part-time in the College of Business Administration and operates his own recruiting firm. “Most students had an opportunity to sit down with 4-5 professionals. The overall impression was that many students were energized and excited by their interviews, and all walked out with tips to help them in the future.”
