Despite growing up amid gangs and drugs in South Central Los Angeles, LaRon Armstead – now a graduate student in the LMU School of Education – escaped this life and worked hard to beat the odds and become a student-athlete at LMU. He played on the men’s basketball team.
After earning his bachelor’s degree in sociology in 2012, LaRon could have continued playing basketball professionally, but instead chose to further his education by pursuing a master’s degree in Counseling from the School of Education.
LaRon continues to give back to his community and tries to encourage others to go to college and to find a better life. Learn more about LaRon’s inspiring journey in the Los Angeles Times and his video profile for Reebok.
