Dr. Howard Fuller, a longtime civil-rights activist and founder and director of the Institute for the Transformation of Learning at Marquette University in Milwaukee, will be giving a keynote address on MLK Day at the SOE event Equity in Catholic Education: Are We Living the Legacy?
The event was organized to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Center for Catholic Education (CCE) at SOE. ”I’ve had the privilege of knowing Dr. Fuller for many years, and I’m honored he will be giving our keynote address,” said Sister Rosemarie Nassif, SSND, Ph.D., executive director of CCE. The online event will bring together Catholic educators to reflect, connect, and act in confronting the call to equity, which Sr. Nassif calls, ”the challenge of our times.”
Two SOE alumni are among the panelists who will discuss equity in Catholic education following Dr. Fuller’s keynote address. The event panelists are John Reyes Ed.D., M.A. ’11, Executive Director, Operational Vitality, National Catholic Education Association (NCEA); Evelyn Rickenbacker, M.A., Principal, Transfiguration School, Los Angeles; and Darrick Smith, Ed.D., Co-Director, USF Transformative School Leadership Program. Panel moderator Brandi Odom Lucas M.A. ’08, Ed.D. ’14, Principal, Verbum Dei High School, Los Angeles, will lead the discussion.
