The LMU School of Education again had a strong presence at two major educational research conferences, the American Educational Research Association annual meeting and the National Catholic Educational Association convention.

Twenty-five faculty, research associates and alumni presented original research, chaired sessions and participated in panel discussions that advanced the field of education.
At the NCEA convention in Houston in early April, Dean Shane P. Martin, Karie Huchting, Jose Chavez and Cori Marasco presented on “Using Demographic and Intelligence Data for Marketing and Recruiting in Catholic Secondary and Elementary Schools.” Their research demonstrated that demographic and intelligence data can be used to develop targeted marketing efforts that increase a Catholic school’s enrollment.
The AERA annual meeting took place in San Francisco in late April where SOE’s Antonia Darder, Leavey Presidential Chair and professor, served as the discussant for panels on the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation and praxis and policy in the struggle for educational justice. Martha McCarthy, President’s Professor in Educational Leadership, presented a paper that stated the Kowalski v. Berkeley County Schools case supports a new standard to judge student electronic expression.
The School of Education hosted receptions at both conferences for faculty, staff, alumni and colleagues.
