In January, a delegation from the LMU School of Education visited the Philippines to meet with the Secretary of Education for the Philippines and the leadership of Teach for the Philippines in order to open a dialogue between our two countries on education.
Dean Shane P. Martin, Associate Dean Kathy Ash and Edmundo Litton, chair of the Department of Specialized Programs in Urban Education, spent four days in Manila visiting schools and meeting with educational leaders to discuss areas for partnership and collaboration.
The SOE delegation met with Br. Armin Luistro, FSC, the Secretary of Education of the Philippines, and Dina Ocampo, the country’s Undersecretary of Education. They discussed some of the key issues facing both countries, including educator preparation, assessment and technology.
Given our statewide partnership in California with Teach For America, the SOE delegation also met with the leadership of Teach for the Philippines and delivered a presentation on the history of the LMU School of Education and our impact on the Los Angeles region and beyond. TFP leaders present included Elizabeth Eder Zobel de Ayala (chairman of the board and co-founder), Margarita Liboro Delgado (CEO and co-founder) and Clarissa Delgado (COO and co-founder). The group discussed areas for possible collaboration in the future, including professional development and study abroad opportunities.
