The LMU School of Education proudly presents its 2012 Annual Report – Breakthrough: Moving Education Forward. As the educational landscape continues to change, both here in Los Angeles and across the nation, this publication highlights the impact LMU faculty, students and alumni have on the real world of PreK-12 schools. Some highlights from the report, include:
- This year saw a continued rise in our U.S. News ranking, vaulting 48 positions in two years to 83rd in the nation.
- This year also saw the successful completion of our capital campaign, raising more than $20.4 million to support our students, faculty and programs.
- Playa Vista Elementary School and WISH Charter Elementary joined the LMU Family of Schools, which now supports 13 schools in the Westchester/Playa area.
- The Center for Equity for English Learners received the largest federal grant in LMU’s history to support placing English Learners on the road to success.
- Our partnership with Teach For America continued to expand as we now serve Sacramento in addition to Los Angeles, Oakland, San Francisco, and San Jose.
- LMU Doctoral students and alumni continue to take on high impact leadership roles, such as Tommy Chang being named Instructional Area Superintendent in Los Angeles Unified School District.
- The Center for Catholic Education is conducting research on the efficacy of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles’ move to a 200-day school calendar.
These are just a few of the many accomplishments by our faculty, staff, programs, and partnerships this year. LMU continually impacts the achievement of students in Los Angeles schools and leads the effort to implement change nationally.
