For the second year, LMU School of Film and Television has partnered with Film Independent to host The Portal, a multimedia storytelling event featuring a collection of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. The event will take place on Saturday and Sunday, September 21 and 22 at LMU’s Playa Vista campus.
“We’re delighted to be hosting this event again at our tech-forward Playa Vista campus,” said Peggy Rajski, dean of SFTV. “The AR/VR/immersive space is expanding the field of media and entertainment, and we’re committed to making sure our students are learning both the art and the craft of storytelling using these cutting-edge technologies.”
This year’s lineup, curated by Film Independent’s artistic director Jacqueline Lyanga, features some of the most exciting new animated, documentary and fictional narratives from virtual reality exhibitions at film festivals around the world this past year, including Cannes, Sundance, SXSW, Tribeca and Venice. “The storytellers in The Portal are visionary interdisciplinary artists,” says Lyanga. “They’re crafting work that is pushing the boundaries and creating new ways to experience fiction, documentary and animated stories. In addition, augmented reality visual art and theater are bringing these traditional art forms into the future.”
