Tasha Henderson (MFA ’15, Writing for the Screen), is one of 13 writers who was accepted into Walt Disney Television’s 2020 Writing Program on February 3.
The Walt Disney Television (WDT) Writing Program is one of the most prestigious programs in the entertainment industry. It has launched the careers of many renowned Hollywood writers, including George Mastras (Breaking Bad); Maria Jacquemetton (Mad Men); Jane Espenson (Once Upon a Time); and many more. Writers from the 2019 program have gone on to be hired to write for shows such as The Good Doctor, The Rookie, mixed-ish and many others.
While in the program, writers have the opportunity to meet and develop relationships with Disney executives, producers, and literary representatives. They also take classes and workshops that prepare them to join writing staffs for programs on Disney, ABC, and other networks.
Henderson, a writer and producer from Dallas, Texas, will be part of the comedy-writing cohort in the Disney program. She received her B.A. in Film Studies from Oklahoma State University before earned her MFA at SFTV. Henderson is a Project Involve Fellow and was a participant in the Incubator Lab, both programs that supported by SFTV and Film Independent. She was the co-writer of the short film Labyrinth, winner of the CineCause Women’s Initiative and the Britt Penrod Audience Award. She co-wrote and produced complex[ion] woman, a play that explores the intricacies of Black womanhood, which won the Encore Producer’s Award at the 2016 Hollywood Fringe Festival. Most recently, Henderson was a writer on the web series Hard Medicine, which aired on the Urban Movie Channel, and wrote and produced her reality TV web series Dating Now.
