Rebecca Sager, chair of LMU’s sociology department and a fellow with the USC Center for Religion and Civic Culture, co-authored an op-ed piece in the LA Times with Brie Laskota, executive director of USC Center for Religion and Civic Culture. The article, titled “The evangelical church has become leaner and arguably meaner,” presents a rise in the percentage of Americans identifying with no religion and goes onto explore why this growth is not equating to more political influence. Sager has been researching the role of evangelical movements in local and national politics since her first book Faith, Politics and Power (Oxford 2010). As a fellow at the USC Center for Religion and Civic Culture, Sager documents and helps communities understand the changes that shape religious cultures in Southern California and across the country.
