Julian Myers, part-time SFTV instructor and well-respected publicist, passed away on December 21, 2013. Myers, who taught an entertainment public relations course each Spring, was an enthusiastic teacher and mentor.
Throughout his career, the industry veteran worked with the likes of Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, John Wayne, and handled public relations campaigns Fox, where he masterminded several publicity stunts including having the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel block out all the letters in its sign except the “EVE” on the night that All About Eve premiered at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre. In early 2013, Myers received a special award from Local 600, and he also received the Publicists Guild’s Robert Yeager Award in 1978 and Les Mason Award in 1980.
Myers is survived by three children, 10 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, his sister Helen Gilbert and brother Rod Myers.
