Participant Media has chosen two student-written and produced PSAs to include in their social action campaign for the documentary, A Place at the Table. The two scripts, Hunger Has Many Faces written by Grad Student Elizabeth Quinn (Writing & Producing for Television) and What If? by Thomas Ireton (Senior, Production), Alyssa Bellia (Senior, Screenwriting) and Neil Hilken (Senior, Production) were selected by Participant Media earlier this year and received a $2000 grant from the SFTV Dean’s Office to fund the production of the PSAs. Participant Media included the final spots on their website Take Part and in their monthly newsletter, which is sent to over 6,000 subscribers.
The PSA contest was launched in conjunction with this year’s Steed Symposium, Game Changers: Media, History and Social Change. Each submission required one screenwriting student and one production student to work together, promoting SFTV’s commitment to provide opportunities for students from different programs to collaborate.
Special thanks to Professor Marilyn Beker for spearheading the competition.
