Loyola Marymount University’s recent graduates are setting the bar high for post-graduate outcomes. According to newly released First Destination data, 97 percent of LMU’s Class of 2016 is currently working, taking part in post-graduate service or attending graduate school, a 6 percent uptick from 2015.
Using First Destination survey data collected six months after graduation, LMU’s website outcomes.lmu.edu provides a transparent, user-friendly experience for visitors to customize their own post-LMU career market as it pertains to their respective field of study.
The College of Business Administration boasts an impressive 89 percent employment rate, the highest among the university’s five undergraduate colleges. The Frank R. Seaver College of Science & Engineering saw a 21 percentage point increase in employment for 2016 graduates, while 88 percent of The College of Communication and Fine Arts graduates are currently employed, a hearty 18 percentage point increase over last year. Seven percent more of the School of Film and Television graduates are working or in graduate school.
The lowest unemployment rate of all of the colleges was achieved by Bellarmine College of Liberal Arts graduates, with less than 1 percent still seeking work six months after graduation.
“The post-graduate outcomes for the Class of 2016 are impressive,” said Branden Grimmett, LMU’s Associate Provost of Career and Professional Development. “Lions landed jobs at long-established LMU employers such as Accenture, Boeing, Deloitte and NBCUniversal. Graduates also benefited from LMU’s growing relationship with Silicon Beach, accepting full-time offers at tech giants such as Belkin, Facebook, Netflix, Pandora and Snapchat. As our alumni footprint at these companies expands, so too will internship and full-time opportunities for future LMU students.”
Vice Provost for Enrollment Management Maureen Weatherall echoed Grimmett, finding the results highly encouraging. “The outcomes of our recent graduating class are a further testament to LMU’s continuing pursuit of the best possible post-graduate pathways and employment opportunities for our students.”
LMU’s strong record in helping students land professional opportunities after graduation can be attributed in part to its close proximity to the start-up and tech community of Silicon Beach, which provides endless internship and job opportunities for graduates.
“LMU has a stellar reputation for preparing creative and impactful students, and this latest employment data provides further evidence that our educational experience produces globally imaginative leaders,” said President Timothy Law Snyder, Ph.D. “LMU, the University of Silicon Beach, provides unmatched opportunities for students of all academic pursuits and interests. We are key partners in this hub of innovation, and marketplace demand for LMU alumni continues to accelerate.”
