
Philippine President Benigno S. Aquino III will receive an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from Loyola Marymount University on Wednesday, Feb. 17, at noon, in an invitation-only ceremony in the Life Sciences Building Auditorium.
Aquino, the 15th president of the Republic of the Philippines, is being honored in recognition of his dedication to his country, his integrity and his embodiment of a Jesuit education. Elected in 2010 to a six-year term, Aquino, a fourth-generation politician, is the only son of Sen. Benigno Aquino Jr. and President Corazon Aquino.
Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti will address the gathering and Congresswoman Judy Chu will attend.
This event is co-sponsored by the School of Education’s Teach for the Philippines Program and the World Policy Institute at LMU.
