Paul De Sena, SOE professor of counselor education, was named 2018 Counselor Educator of the Year by the California Association of School Counselors. The prestigious award is being presented at the 2018 CASC State Conference, scheduled for October 17-19 at the Riverside Convention Center in Riverside, California.
In a career spanning more than 52 years on the Loyola Marymount University faculty, De Sena has established a reputation for outstanding teaching, mentoring, scholarship and service, both at LMU and in advocating for school counselors at the local, state, regional, national and international levels. A former director of SOE’s School Psychology program for six years and director of counselor education at LMU for 37 years who also served as chairperson of LMU’s Department of Education for eight years, he has taught thousands of graduate students who, by going on to become committed school counselors, have influenced the lives of countless students at all school levels. De Sena has received numerous honors from prestigious professional organizations, including awards for individual achievement, distinguished service, and outstanding mentorship and advocacy.
“This recognition is well-deserved and reflective of the significant contributions and impact Paul has made in the field of school counselor education,” said Mary K. McCullough, interim dean and professor of the LMU School of Education. “We are proud of him and the work he has done to help shape the school counseling profession in the state.”
