Comedy Central has ordered 10 episodes of the animated cop comedy series Moonbeam City, created and executive produced by production alum Scott Gairdner (’07). Moonbeam City is billed as an absurdist take on crime drama set in the 1980s and follows an undercover detective Dazzle Novak (Rob Lowe), a handsome idiot who avoids doing his job no matter the consequences. Gairdner will produce the project alongside executive producers Will Gluck and Richard Schwartz (Olive Bridge Entertainment) and producer Lowe. The series features the voices of Lowe, Elizabeth Banks, Will Forte and Kate Mara, with animation by Titmouse.
According to Deadline, Gairdner said “I was hoping for 10,000 episodes, but 10 is a good start,” to which Comedy Central’s president of original programming Kent Alterman responded, “Had Scott just asked, we would have given him a 10,000-episode order. Oh well, lesson learned for him.”
Gairdner got his start with his popular YouTube channel launched in 2006, where his videos garnered over 16 million views and were featured by the New York Times. He was a staff writer and director at Funny Or Die where he worked with the likes of Larry David, Zach Galifianakis, Mike Myers, Snoop Dogg, Mike Tyson and Wayne Newton and became known for his Jesse Eisenberg impersonation. He is currently a writer for Conan where he has written the sketches “Smoke City” and “Brozen Brogurt,” as well as the intro for their infamous Breaking Bad episode.
